***BREAKING NEWS***
After recording the conversation part of our podcast, news broke that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) would be altering its strategy of dealing with peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharers and torrent downloaders. Instead of filing lawsuits against unknowing single mothers and grandparents, the RIAA said it would work with Internet Service Providers to warn suspected downloaders about their activities. The ISPs would limit the users’ bandwidth or shut them off completely if illegal downloading continued. For more on the story, click on the following links:

John and Brian recorded this final Technology and the Arts podcast at the Crystal Diner in Lawrenceville, N.J.

After two years, the Technology and the Arts podcast comes to a close with this hour-long installment filled with memories, outtakes and other special moments from the series. It has been a good ride, but John and I felt it was time to “close the curtain” for a final time on this venture.

We still have more to say on the topics of technology and art, but we find ourselves with very limited time to do so in this format. Each of us will still have our FriendFeed profiles (see above) and we will continue to share information with the world that way.

Also, this blog will remain…and there is always the chance that we may post something — a blog or even a special podcast — at various points in the future. However, we decided that it was time to end the program before it suffers the fate of similar podcasts…one day, without explanation, it disappears.

We wanted to go out with something special and we feel this is worthy of a series finale.

• Warren Wolf retires – After coaching all 51 seasons of football that have ever been played at Brick Township (N.J.) High School, the 81-year-old Warren Wolf retired as the state’s winningest football coach with a record of 361-122-11 to go along with 25 division crowns and six state sectional titles. Not really related to technology and arts, but Wolf is worthy of the acknowledgment. Read this Asbury Park Press story and be sure to watch the video on that page.
• Truphone – A free, voice-over-IP application for the iPod Touch that sort of turns it into an iPhone.
• Princeton University Art Museum – A recent visit allowed Brian to see two special exhibits, Jasper Johns: Light Bulb and Frank Gehry: Online. Brian also had the chance to visit the newly opened Lewis Science Library, which was designed by Gehry (see photo above).

• John’s stolen car wasn’t stolen after all…he simply misplaced it in South Philadelphia for more than a month. It turns out he was parked about four blocks away from where thought he was.
• President-Elect Barack Obama’s YouTube Weekly Address – President-Elect Obama presented what was the first of a series of weekly addresses via YouTube…and John is happy he can watch them on his T-Mobile G1.
• EwingNJ.org – John serves as chair of the Ewing Township, N.J., web site committee and he informed us that the site officially goes live on January 1, 2009. But you can click on the link to see a public preview of the site.
• Team2016 – John is a mentor for the web/marketing part of the Mighty Monkey Wrenches, Ewing’s premier robotics powerhouse, and helped build this WordPress.com site for them. Unfortunately, the team has decided to build its own web site from scratch and ditch the WordPress site…to John’s dismay.
• And John offers best wishes to former Rider colleague Angel Brady, for whom there will be a going away party at Triumph in Princeton on Friday, Nov. 21.

• Christian Beach – Brian plugs some upcoming shows by his friend Christian…November 22 at Rockaway Townsquare in Rockaway, N.J.; November 29 at The Living Room in New York City; and December 12 at Fergie’s Pub in Philadelphia.
• Grounds for Sculpture – The 35-acre sculpture garden founded in 1992 by J. Seward Johnson (of the Johnson & Johnson family) is located in Hamilton, N.J. Brian recently visited the park and put these photos up on Picasa.
• Roger B. Dannenberg – The co-creator of the Audacity audio-editing application and an associate research professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science and School of Art recently took part in a pair of programs at The College of New Jersey. Two nights after giving a talk on his recent work with computer-based music and music-playing robots, Roger played trumpet with the TCNJ jazz ensemble.
• Google Maps/My Maps – Brian has recently begun using the My Maps feature of Google Maps to figure out where the different venues are for a wedding he is attending this weekend.
• “Hardware Wars” – Possibly the first fan-created spoof movie, this 1977 classic short parodies “Star Wars” using household appliances as robots, weapons and spaceships…and a puppet replacing Chewbacca. Brian recently found “Hardware Wars” on YouTube and posted it to his blog…you can watch part one below.

• David Tennant leaves “Doctor Who” – David Tennant, who plays the titular role of The Doctor in “Doctor Who,” has announced he will be leaving the show after a series of specials air in 2009, leading to a regeneration to an 11th Doctor for the fifth season (or series, for those of you in the UK) in 2010. Good luck in your future endeavors, David…you were arguably the greatest Doctor of them all. But the show shall move on, as it always has…even if there is a 16-year break between series.
• MTVMusic.com – MTV has established this online archive of more than 16,000 music videos — and it’s growing every day. The site has a large number of rarely seen clips, such as long-forgotten gems by Mike Oldfield like “Shine” (featuring Yes’ Jon Anderson) and “Magic Touch.”
• MTV-Harmonix, Beatles reach deal on video game – Apple Corps has signed a deal with MTV-Harmonix, the makers of Rock Band, to create a standalone video game featuring music from The Beatles’ catalog. The agreement marks the first time Beatles music will be moved into the digital realm (outside of CDs), as the legendary group’s music has yet to appear on iTunes, Amazon.com or any music download service.
• Philadelphia Phillies – Brian is ecstatic about the Philadelphia Phillies winning their first World Series title since 1980 — and only the second in the franchise’s 126 seasons of play. He also thanks fans who uploaded video of the historic moment to YouTube and web sites like The 700 Level, The Fightins, PhilliesPhans.com, and, especially, BackSheGoes.com for enhancing his experience of this championship season.
